Fashion Week 2016 Kicks Off in NYC

mw, September 8, 2016December 12, 2023

Fashion returns to New York this week as the spring/summer 2017 collections get underway. The effects of Hurricane Hermine will reportedly be felt during the event as it moves away from the coast. Temperatures will be at all-time highs for this time of year reaching near 90-degrees, according to AccuWeather meteorologists, as summer continues to heat things up through the month of September.

The designers are altering the scheduling of their shows, says Forbes, to coordinate with digital coverage and consumers. Many brands will utilize what is being a called an “interactive,” “see now buy now” platform allowing customers to purchase fashions with immediate availability.

The designers scheduled to appear include the legendary mainstays such as Tom Ford, DKNY, Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang, Anna Sui, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Marc Jacobs, as well as newcomers Andrea Jiapei Li, Charles Youssef, and Phelan, who Allure is calling “the brands to know.”

The shows themselves number in the hundreds with thousands of attendees to enjoy these creative spectaculars and that have such enormous economic impact. The guests will also attend the many parties and celebrations associated with each event. An upwards of 230,000 are expected to be present in 2016 according to Reuters – a group made up of clients, fashion editors, and buyers, and that’s not including the audience of patrons and fans who will be watching the shows in real time.
